About Us

Dear music lovers,

You probably might (not) know that music always has been a passion for me : both playing in a band as well as  DJ’ing.   Also music radio making interests me a lot. When I was a teenager, I sat listening for hours to the progressive way of radio making of the off-shore radio stations on the North Sea such as Radio Veronica, Radio 227 and Radio Noordzee (North Sea). I found the use of charts as a basis for programming very interesting and I started collecting (first writing down!) the top-40 hitparades of radio Veronica.

Unfortunately I never took the opportunity to start making radio myself. Also at the time that ‘free radios’ became popular in Belgium in the beginnnig of the 80's, I never applied to one or another station. Why not? Threshold fear? Being a father of a young family having other priorities? Probably both and even more ...

Since some time now, thanks to the modern technologies, it becomes possible to set up a private radio station. The organization 'Radionomy' gives interested radiofreaks the chance to create and manage a webstation (radio over the internet). I took the opportunity with both hands and started to set up this station. I named it J.O.S. radio Schoten. J.O.S. stands for 'Jouw Oldies Station', which means 'Your Oldies Station'. 'Schoten' is the village where I live. The main purpose will be a non-stop music station, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, where you'll enjoy your favorite tunes taken from no less than 5 decades of hits. The hits of today will also come along from time to time. Since we are on the w.w.w., announcements (jingles) will not only be done in Dutch, but in English as well.

The set-up of such a station is free, it only takes a lot of time and a thorough preparation, but that won't be a 'burden' for me. Copyright taxes are paid by Radionomy; in return they have the right to put commercials into the programming (max. 4 minutes/hour).

In order to keep this station alive, there is a need for sufficient listeners.  After three months the number of listening hours will be evaluated; if the response is too low, the station will be deactivated instantly.  In order to avoid this, I am counting on your cooperation: please listen regularly to J.O.S. radio Schoten. If we join together, the survival of the station will be guaranteed.

Please send your remarks/suggestions to our mailbox !

Thanks in advance and have lots of listening fun !
